Bio:
Matilde is the daughter of one Bergerac’s bakers guild senior masters, and one of several women who joined the guild with the sponsorship of a male member. She never let her status as a woman hold her back from advancing in the guild or doing anything its other members did, and under her father’s instruction, became an excellent baker. She’s fully capable of running a bakery on her own.
Within the guild, Matilde was well-liked, for the most part. She is pleasant, charming, outgoing, and everyone enjoys talking to her, as a result of which she tends to be ‘in the know’ about everything that’s going on. Her downfall turned out to be her temper. When angered, Matilde completely loses control, flying into a rage of dangerous intensity. After several incidents involving her underlings at the bakery and stern warnings from her father, Matilde finally went to far when she chased a guild master out of the baker with a cleaver. Her father withdrew his sponsorship, and Matilde had to go elsewhere.
Nobody in Bergerac would take her on, so Matilde tried other towns. She had never travelled before, and found the experience bewildering. With no sense of direction, no map, and no ability to read one if she had it, Matilde wandered from one place to the next, looking for work. A number of employers accepted her at first, only to send her on her way when she lost her temper. Eventually she found her way to Commarque, and into the employ of the Covenant there.
Matilde really has no idea where she is now, but she’s pretty sure she won’t get fired again. The first time she lost control of herself, one of the magi cast a spell and calmed her down in a heartbeat! Besides that, she likes the Covenant; the gossip here is so much more interesting than back in town…
